Lotus Flower Bracelet Gold 

Our lucky charm for 2024 is the lucky lotus. Although it is the Diospyros fruit of the Ebony family that we call Lotus in Greek, in other languages Lotus is Nelumbo nucifera, an aquatic plant with a radial flower, also called a water lily. In Homer’s Odyssey we read (translation by A.T. Murray) “So they went straightway and mingled with the Lotus-eaters, and the Lotus-eaters did not plan death for my comrades, but gave them of the lotus to taste. And whosoever of them ate of the honey-sweet fruit of the lotus, there they were ... forgetful of their homeward way”, a potential reference to the blue lotus [Nymphaea caerulea] thriving in Egypt - a possible location of the land of the Lotus-eaters - the flowers of which have psychoactive properties. Because its roots lie in bottom soil and its stalk in dark waters, but its flower blooms and turns to the sun, lotus is a symbol of light and rebirth in the Egyptian culture and Eastern religions.
